Rockstar documents an offline launch option for GTA 5 Story Mode on PC. Complete the online preparation steps before using it.
Prepare GTA 5 while online
Launch Story Mode offline
Rockstar states that Story Mode generally does not require an internet connection.
Connectivity limitations
You may still need to connect to play GTA Online, synchronize progress or save files with Rockstar Cloud, or ensure that the game files are current.
Restore connected features
Close GTA 5, remove -scofflineonly from Launch Arguments, and relaunch the game before using GTA Online, Rockstar Cloud synchronization, or game updates.
Prepare GTA 5 while online
- Run the Rockstar Games Launcher and update it to the latest version.
- Sign in to the launcher.
- Update GTA 5 to the latest version.
- Launch GTA 5 through the Rockstar Games Launcher while online.
Launch Story Mode offline
- Sign in to the Rockstar Games Launcher.
- Select Settings from the top navigation.
- Select Grand Theft Auto V from the left sidebar.
- Under Launch Arguments, enter -scofflineonly.
- Select Games.
- Select Play, or start GTA 5 from your preferred launcher.
