How to Manually Migrate GTA IV Games for Windows – Live Saves
Posted by: ice - 07-24-2026, 10:28 PM - Forum: GTA 4 - No Replies

Rockstar documents a manual method for migrating Grand Theft Auto IV save files from Games for Windows – Live.

Automatic-migration cutoff dates

On August 25, 2025, Rockstar Games Launcher removed the game-settings option for scanning computers for GTA IV Games for Windows – Live saves. Automatic scanning during installation remained available until September 16, 2025.

Saves can still be migrated manually using Rockstar's official migration instructions.

Open the destination folder

  1. Install Rockstar Games Launcher.
  2. Install Grand Theft Auto IV.
  3. In Rockstar Games Launcher, select Settings.
  4. Under My installed games, select Grand Theft Auto IV.
  5. Next to View save files, select Open.

The folder opened in the final step is the destination for the legacy save files.

Find and migrate the legacy saves

Open another File Explorer window and search for folders named savegames. Rockstar also identifies these possible locations:

Code:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames %USERPROFILE%\Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames

Copy the legacy save files into the destination folder opened through Rockstar Games Launcher, then launch Grand Theft Auto IV.

Cloud-save limitation

Rockstar states that cloud saves are not currently supported for games installed from physical media.

GTA Online “BattlEye Is Required” Alert: How to Enable It on PC
Posted by: ice - 07-24-2026, 10:28 AM - Forum: GTA 5 Discussions - No Replies

Rockstar says the “BattlEye is required to play GTA Online” alert can appear when BattlEye is disabled on a PC or when someone attempts to launch GTA Online on a Steam Deck.

Enable BattlEye automatically

Follow the alert’s prompt to restart Grand Theft Auto V. Rockstar says this automatically changes the BattlEye setting.

Enable BattlEye manually on PC

  1. Close Grand Theft Auto V.
  2. Open the Rockstar Games Launcher.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Check the BattlEye checkbox.
  5. Launch Grand Theft Auto V and join GTA Online.

Story Mode and Community RP servers

BattlEye only needs to be active during online sessions such as GTA Online. Depending on the PC platform, the applicable setting or launch option can disable BattlEye for Story Mode.

Official Rockstar Community RP servers do not require BattlEye. Community Server launchers disable it as part of their launch processes.

Steam Deck limitation

Steam Deck does not support BattlEye for GTA Online. Rockstar says Steam Deck players can play GTA V Story Mode but cannot play GTA Online.

GTA Online “Maximum Number of CEOs and VIPs Reached”: What to Do
Posted by: ice - 07-24-2026, 12:08 AM - Forum: GTA Online - No Replies

The “maximum number of CEOs and VIPs has been reached in this session” notification means the current GTA Online session has no room for another CEO or VIP.

Change sessions

Rockstar recommends changing sessions when too many CEOs prevent you from registering:

  1. Open the Pause Menu.
  2. Select Online.
  3. Select Find New Session.

In the new session, try registering again.

Register as a CEO

CEO registration requires an Office purchased through the Dynasty 8 Executive website. After purchasing an Office, open the Interaction Menu and select SecuroServ > Register as a CEO.

Sources and verification
  • Executive | GTA Online Guides — Supports purchasing an Office through Dynasty 8 Executive, registering through the Interaction Menu under SecuroServ, and using Pause Menu > Online > Find New Session when too many CEOs prevent registration.
  • GTAV Title Update 1.68 Notes — Confirms that the notification is associated with a session that already has the maximum number of CEOs and VIPs.

How to Sell GTA Online Business Stock in an Invite-Only Session
Posted by: ice - 07-23-2026, 05:49 PM - Forum: GTA 5 Discussions - No Replies

GTA Online allows business activities, including Sell Missions, in private Invite Only sessions. You do not need to enter a public session to sell business goods.

Start an Invite Only session

Rockstar’s current instructions begin in Story Mode:

  1. Open the Pause Menu.
  2. Select Online.
  3. Select Find New Session.
  4. Select Invite Only Session.
  5. When prompted, leave the current session. The game will take you to a new private session.

Register and sell

In the Invite Only session, register as a VIP, CEO, or MC President. Rockstar confirms that these roles are available in Invite Only, Crew, and Friend sessions, allowing business owners to source and sell goods at their own pace or with friends.

Public-session bonus

You can still sell goods in a public session. Rockstar states that public-session sales receive an increased high-demand bonus; sales in an Invite Only session do not receive that public-session bonus.

Sources and verification
  • Accessing a New Invite Only Session — Provides Rockstar’s current steps for starting an Invite Only session from Story Mode and confirms that the player is prompted to leave the current session before entering a new private session.
  • Upcoming Improvements to the GTA Online Experience — Confirms that business activities, including Sell Missions, are available in private Invite Only sessions; that players can register as a VIP, CEO, or MC President in private sessions; and that public-session sales receive an increased high-demand bonus.

GTA 5 ERR_GFX_STATE Fix: Switch from Vulkan to DirectX 12
Posted by: ice - 07-23-2026, 11:46 AM - Forum: GTA 5 Discussions - No Replies

GTA 5 ERR_GFX_STATE Fix: Switch from Vulkan to DirectX 12

Rockstar's troubleshooting guidance for a GTA 5 PC launch crash displaying ERR_GFX_STATE recommends trying these remedies in order: update or revert the graphics driver, switch the Graphics API from Vulkan to DirectX 12, and, if necessary, change compatibility settings for GTAV.exe.

1. Update or revert the graphics driver

Install the latest driver for your NVIDIA or AMD graphics card. If the latest driver is already installed and the error continues, Rockstar recommends reverting to an earlier driver version.

2. Switch from Vulkan to DirectX 12

Rockstar provides these steps:

  1. Launch GTA 5 and select Settings from the main menu.
  2. Select Graphics.
  3. Set Advanced Settings to Unlocked.
  4. Set Graphics API to DirectX 12.
  5. Save the settings, but do not restart when prompted.
  6. Return to the main menu.

The complete procedure appears in Rockstar's ERR_GFX_STATE support article.

3. Change the compatibility settings for GTAV.exe

If the preceding remedies do not work, Rockstar recommends locating GTAV.exe through the Rockstar Games Launcher, Steam, or Epic Games Launcher. Open the file's Properties, select Compatibility, and enable both Run this program as an administrator and Disable fullscreen optimization. Select OK, return to the launcher, and launch GTA 5.

Rockstar confirms that GTAV Enhanced is available through the Rockstar Games Launcher, Steam, and Epic Games Store.

4. Verify the game files

Rockstar's general GTA 5 PC troubleshooting guide recommends verifying the game files through the Rockstar Games Launcher, Steam, or Epic Games Launcher.

Additional troubleshooting

For continuing crashes, consult Rockstar's general GTA 5 PC troubleshooting guide. It covers DirectX and Visual C++ installation problems, antivirus interference, the launcher.log file, and DxDiag and MSInfo diagnostics.

How to Install FiveM for GTA V Enhanced (Early Access) — Without Breaking Your Legacy
Posted by: ice - 07-23-2026, 03:16 AM - Forum: GTA 5 Discussions - No Replies

How to Install FiveM for GTA V Enhanced (Early Access) — Without Breaking Your Legacy Setup

On July 21, 2026, Cfx.re — the team behind FiveM, part of Rockstar Games since 2023 — opened early access for FiveM for GTAV Enhanced, a separate client built for the Enhanced edition of GTA V. Your existing FiveM install is now referred to as GTAV Legacy, and per Cfx.re both are available side by side for the time being, with a longer-term goal of bringing the two experiences together into one place with one centralized server list.

This guide walks you through installing the Enhanced client today, what early access does and doesn't include, and why your current setup keeps working.

What launched, in one paragraph

The early-access release includes a new client download for GTA V Enhanced, new Cfx Server binaries for hosting Enhanced-compatible servers, a rebuilt VoIP system that replaces the existing Mumble integration, and significant sync and runtime upgrades. Details are in the launch announcement and the two development updates (#2, #3).

Before you start

  • This client targets GTA V Enhanced. It's a separate launcher from your current FiveM client, which continues to run GTAV Legacy.
  • Don't uninstall your current FiveM. GTAV Legacy will continue to be supported within the current FiveM client, and your favorite servers stay reachable through it until they migrate.
  • Expect early-access roughness. Cfx.re states this early-access version will contain bugs and missing features — that's explicitly part of the deal right now.

Step-by-step: installing the Enhanced client

  1. Go to fivem.net and click the "Download FiveM for GTAV Enhanced" button. Get the installer only from fivem.net — as with any hyped launch, fake "Enhanced" downloads will circulate.
  2. Run the new installer. Per Development Update #3, you can choose a separate folder or drive for cached server files and opt into Desktop and Start Menu shortcuts during setup. Pick a cache location distinct from your Legacy install so the two clients don't fight over data.
  3. Launch and pick a server. Only servers running the new Cfx Server binaries support the Enhanced client during early access, so expect a shorter server list than you're used to on Legacy.

That's it — the Enhanced client and your Legacy client now coexist as separate installs with separate shortcuts.

Will I lose my Legacy servers?

No. Per Development Update #2, both experiences are available side by side for the time being, and the stated longer-term goal is to bring them together into one place with one centralized server list. Until then, keep playing your usual servers on Legacy and treat Enhanced as an opt-in preview. Nothing about installing Enhanced touches your Legacy configuration if you gave it its own cache folder.

Why bother switching early?

Development Update #3 outlines the headline technical changes:
  • Sync rate configurable up to 120 updates per second, up from the previous 30 — a big deal for racing, PvP, and anything physics-sensitive.
  • Multi-core entity culling inside the sync pipeline, so entities appear around players faster even on highly populated servers.
  • Modernized script runtimes — .NET 10 support for C# developers and NodeJS 26 on the server.
  • Faster state bags — sets are around 10x faster on average, with lower networking overhead.

Early-access caveats
  • Asset Escrow support is not available at the start of early access (Development Update #2) and will arrive in a later update. If your favorite server depends on escrowed resources, that's a likely reason it hasn't migrated yet.
  • Bugs and crashes are expected. Cfx.re asks users to post on the dedicated citizenfx/rfc GitHub repository using the Discussions tab — during early access, good reports directly inform future development and optimization.
  • Features will land incrementally. If something you rely on is missing, check the dev updates before assuming it's broken on your end.

Server owners: the short version

Hosting a server that supports GTAV Enhanced means moving to the new Cfx Server binaries and adopting the rebuilt VoIP system that replaces the existing Mumble integration. That migration — binaries, resource compatibility, voice reconfiguration — deserves its own walkthrough, and we'll cover it in a dedicated Cfx Server migration guide alongside our existing sv_enforceGameBuild and ACE-permissions articles.

For broader context on the launch and follow-up developments, you can also check sourced GTA coverage on TOP OF GAMES.

Bottom line: install Enhanced from fivem.net's dedicated button, give it its own cache folder, keep Legacy untouched, and report what breaks. You lose nothing by trying it and you'll be ready when the two clients merge.

How to Disable BattlEye for GTA 5 Story Mode Mods on Steam, Epic, and Rockstar Launch
Posted by: ice - 07-22-2026, 03:10 PM - Forum: GTA 5 Discussions - No Replies

How to Disable BattlEye for GTA 5 Story Mode Mods on Steam, Epic, and Rockstar Launcher

BattlEye can be disabled when you want to run GTA 5 Story Mode with mods on PC. The correct method depends on whether you launch the game through Rockstar Games Launcher, Steam, or Epic Games Launcher.

Do not use this setup for official GTA Online. A game launched without BattlEye cannot connect to official GTA Online servers, so only Story Mode is playable while BattlEye is disabled. Before returning online, reverse the relevant setting and launch the game normally.

Choose the method for your launcher

| Launcher | How to disable BattlEye for Story Mode |
| --- | --- |
| Rockstar Games Launcher | Uncheck the BattlEye option in Settings under General |
| Steam | Add -nobattleye to GTA V's Launch Options |
| Epic Games Launcher | Enable launch arguments for GTA V and add -nobattleye |

Rockstar's GTA Online BattlEye FAQ confirms both the launcher setting and the -nobattleye launch argument for third-party launchers.

Before you begin

Close GTA 5 before changing its launcher settings. Confirm which launcher owns your copy, then follow only that launcher's instructions below.

These steps are intended for Story Mode. They do not make Story Mode mods suitable for official GTA Online.

Rockstar Games Launcher

  1. Close GTA 5.
  2. Open Rockstar Games Launcher.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Under Launcher Settings, select General.
  5. Uncheck the BattlEye option.
  6. Start GTA 5 and enter Story Mode.

The checkbox is the launcher-native method for disabling BattlEye during Story Mode play. To restore the standard online configuration later, return to Settings and select the checkbox again.

Steam

  1. Close GTA 5.
  2. Open Steam and select Library.
  3. Right-click Grand Theft Auto V and select Properties.
  4. Find the Launch Options field.
  5. Enter this argument exactly:

Code:
-nobattleye

  1. Close the Properties window, launch the game, and enter Story Mode.

If the Launch Options field already contains another argument, preserve it and separate the arguments with a space. When you are ready to use official GTA Online again, remove -nobattleye from this field.

Epic Games Launcher

  1. Close GTA 5.
  2. Open the Epic Games Launcher settings for Grand Theft Auto V.
  3. Enable the launch options (additional command line arguments) setting for the game.
  4. Enter:

Code:
-nobattleye

  1. Close the settings, launch GTA 5, and enter Story Mode.

Before returning to official GTA Online, remove -nobattleye and disable the custom launch arguments setting so the game starts with its default configuration.

How to restore BattlEye before playing GTA Online

Use this checklist every time you switch from modded Story Mode to official GTA Online:

  1. Close GTA 5.
  2. In Rockstar Games Launcher, make sure the BattlEye option is checked again.
  3. If you use Steam, remove -nobattleye from GTA V's Launch Options.
  4. If you use Epic Games Launcher, remove the argument and disable the custom launch arguments setting.
  5. Start GTA 5 directly from Rockstar Games Launcher, Steam, or Epic Games Launcher.
  6. Enter GTA Online only after restoring those settings.

Without BattlEye running, the game cannot connect to official GTA Online servers, so re-enabling it is required before online play.

If GTA Online still reports a BattlEye problem

First, close the game and recheck every setting above. A leftover -nobattleye argument is easy to miss, particularly if you alternate between Story Mode and Online.

For the normal online configuration:
  • The Rockstar Games Launcher BattlEye option should be checked.
  • Steam Launch Options should not contain -nobattleye.
  • Epic launch arguments should not contain -nobattleye.
  • Launch the game directly from the launcher rather than a batch file, command prompt, or customized desktop shortcut.

If those checks do not resolve the problem, continue with Rockstar's official BattlEye troubleshooting guide.

The short version

Use the Rockstar Games Launcher checkbox or the -nobattleye argument only for Story Mode. Before joining official GTA Online, check the Rockstar BattlEye option again and remove -nobattleye from any Steam or Epic launch options.

FiveM sv_enforceGameBuild: Configuration and Build Selection
Posted by: ice - 07-22-2026, 02:59 AM - Forum: GTA 5 Discussions - No Replies

FiveM [b]sv_enforceGameBuild: Configuration and Build Selection[/b]

The sv_enforceGameBuild server variable selects the GTA V game build used by connecting FiveM clients. Cfx.re documents it as a startup-only setting that cannot be changed at runtime.

Every supported build includes the content and changes from preceding builds. A server can therefore select a later build when its resources depend on content introduced in an earlier one.

Configuration

To select build 3751, add the following command to the server configuration processed at startup:

Code:
sv_enforceGameBuild 3751

Restart the server after changing this value because it cannot be changed while the server is running.

The Cfx.re build table maps build 3407 to Agents of Sabotage and build 3751 to A Safehouse in the Hills. Rockstar Games announced GTA Online: A Safehouse in the Hills as available on December 10, 2025.

Older-build executable handling

Cfx.re documents sv_replaceExeToSwitchBuilds as an experimental Boolean setting that determines how clients run older builds requested through sv_enforceGameBuild.

When set to true, the client downloads the files for the selected build and runs that build's older executable. When set to false, the client runs the latest stable executable and loads only the DLC associated with the enforced build.

The documented default is true for server builds below 12872 and false for server builds above 12871. Build 1 is a special case: the client behaves as though sv_replaceExeToSwitchBuilds were false, even if it was previously set to true.

How to Install SilentPatch for Classic GTA: San Andreas on PC

How to Install SilentPatch for Classic GTA: San Andreas on PC

SilentPatch is an open-source bug-fix project that addresses crashes and other community-identified problems without changing the core gameplay experience.

Check your edition

SilentPatch supports the classic PC versions of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas based on version 1.0, Steam, and Rockstar Games Launcher executables. Steam and Rockstar Games Launcher installations do not need to be downgraded solely to use SilentPatch, although some individual fixes require version 1.0.

SilentPatch does not support Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas – The Definitive Edition. That remastered edition is a separate Steam release.

Install the required loader

SilentPatch requires an ASI loader. Silent's GTA: San Andreas mod page specifies an ASI Loader for supported classic installations and Ultimate ASI Loader for the Rockstar Games Launcher version.

Choose the loader appropriate for your game version and complete its installation before adding SilentPatch.

Download SilentPatch

Download the San Andreas package from the SilentPatch GitHub releases page. The repository is open source, and the cited project pages list the San Andreas release as Build 33.1.

Install the downloaded package according to the instructions included with that release, then launch the game through your usual client.

Save compatibility

SilentPatch prevents the Steam and Rockstar Games Launcher versions from rejecting saves created with versions 1.0 or 1.01. A compatible main.scm is still required for such a save to work correctly.

How to Verify GTA 5 Game Files in the Rockstar Games Launcher

Use these steps for a PC installation of Grand Theft Auto V managed by the Rockstar Games Launcher.

Verify the game files

  1. Open the Rockstar Games Launcher and sign in.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Under My installed games, select Grand Theft Auto V.
  4. Under Verify game file integrity, select Verify Integrity.
  5. Wait for verification to finish.

When the process finishes, a pop-up above the Windows system tray should report that the game is verified and ready to play.

When verification may help

Rockstar recommends game-file verification when troubleshooting GTA 5 installation issues, crashes, freezes, or poor performance on PC. Verification can resolve several types of problems and ensure that the game and its supporting files are up to date.
